Wrestling News Newsletter reviews Larryland

“Larry Zbyszko’s description of how he turned on his mentor, Bruno Sammartino, is one for the ages. . . . Larry Zbyszko is and always will be a true ‘Living Legend’ of pro wrestling.”

To start off with, Larry Zbyszko is a true legend of pro wrestling. He has been around long enough to know the ins and outs of the world of pro wrestling.

This book, overall, tell the full Larry Zbyszko story. I am sure that there are stories that Zbyszko has either purposely or intentionally left out. Maybe that is for another book.

Larry Zbyszko's description of how he turned on his mentor, Bruno Sammartino, is one for the ages. This angle is legendary and drew unprecedented crowds whether it was at Madison Square Gardens or their epic battle at Shea Stadium.

Zbyszko really does give us a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this angle (or feud, which ever you want to call it) and how Sammartino and Zbyszko worked together as a unit to make the feud the best one for their time. A lot of former wrestlers and fans from then remember that feud either with fondness or with what some could say "I wish I had done that".

I remember seeing the match between Sammertino and Zbyszko on TV where Larry hits his mentor on the head with a chair three times, leaving the Legend in a pool of his own blood. I remember seeing the crowds reaction and how furious I was watching it. But that was the feud. To get the fans riled up.

Larry's look at this was awesome and will never be matched, unless Bruno Sammartino gives us his version of the events one day.

Zbyszko has also given us a view of touring Japan to working for Verne Gagne's AWA, the Crockett's NWA and then Ted Turners WCW plus other federations and mishaps along the way.

This book has really given The 1974 Pro Wrestling Rookie of the Year point of view on the world of professional wrestling and how things evolved from his vantage point either as a wrestler or as a commentator.

Larry Zbyszko's take on his feuds with Bruno Sammartino, the Now, Nick Bockwinkle and others are great. I am sure he could have added many more pages.

Larry Zbyszko will and always will be a true "Living Legend" of pro wrestling.
